A hungry man caused almost £1,000 of damage to a window at a McDonald’s restaurant while waiting for it to open at 5am.

Jamie Harrison said he had tapped the door glass with his foot trying to get the attention of staff inside.

Harrison, 23, of Douglas Place, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

Sarah Perkins, prosecuting, said staff at the Anchorage Way restaurant told Harrison and a friend to wait outside until the premises opened, but saw a pane of toughened glass had been broken.

Harrison admitted he had caused the damage and offered to pay for it.

He was given a caution by police on condition he paid £902 compensation but he did not pay.

Harrison was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £520 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.
