Needy Blackpool children are set to have a brighter Christmas after big-hearted residents donated hundreds of gifts to the Give A Little campaign.
Presents have poured in for Blackpool’s fourth Give A Little Campaign, which aims to give less fortunate children a bit of festive magic.
Coun Pam Jackson, who is leading the campaign, said: “Four years ago I had it laid on my heart that we had to do something for children who wouldn’t receive Christmas presents.
“It is so wonderful we are able to do this.
“We have got hundreds of gifts this year. Now we have to sort all the toys into different age groups, it’s a mammoth task.
“I would like to thank the people of Blackpool who have contributed and volunteers who are helping.
“Without their help it wouldn’t happen.”
The Give A Little campaign was launched last month, when local residents were asked to pick up another gift for a needy child while out doing their Christmas shopping.
The gifts, which are for children aged from birth to 18, include toys, clothes, toiletries, sweets, teddy bears
Once the presents have been sorted and allocated to different children, social workers will deliver the gifts.
Last year, presents were delivered to 1,200 children in need.
Coun Jackson added: “Last year we delivered gifts to 1,200 children.
“Each parcel had three things in it, so that’s 3,000 presents.
“Every child deserves a present at Christmas. Without us doing this there would be some children without Christmas presents.
“It’s very important.”
