The celebrity star of Ghost the Musical stepped down halfway through her performance.
Former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, who stars as Molly, was replaced by her understudy Kelly Hampson during last night’s show at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.
The 34-year-old just recently returned to the show after being diagnosed with a tract infection last month.
She was pictured all smiles at the Mandarin Chinese restaurant on Clifton Street enjoying a glass of wine alongside other cast members on Sunday morning.
Janet Hill, from Lytham, who attended the performance, said: “It was very strange. There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with her in the first half. She seemed perfectly fine. She was holding the long notes just fine and she didn’t have a croaky voice or seem unwell.
“There was nothing wrong with her voice at all.
“The interval went on for a very long time. After about 25 minutes we had a tannoy announcement saying they were sorry for the delay and that they hoped the show would resume shortly. We thought there might have been a technical problem.
“After another 10 minutes there was another announcement saying Miss Harding had become ‘indisposed’ and that the role of Molly would be played by her understudy.
“There was no other explanation.
“Overall I’d say the interval lasted around 35 or 40 minutes.”
A Winter Gardens spokesman said: “We are waiting to find out whether Sarah Harding is well enough to perform tonight.”
Fans watching the performance took to Twitter following the shock replacement.
@suffolkbrumfan said “Been to Ghost tonight, not sure what happened to Sarah Harding but the understudy for second half was excellent singer.”
@laurynnmarshall said: “Thank god Sarah Harding understudy came on half way through, I’ve never heard or seen someone that bad in a show! #sheisshocking”
@sjones8706 said “@SarahNHarding hope your throat is better soon! (Presuming that’s why you couldn’t do 2nd half)”.
