That’s the mantra as the annual Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10K is launched today, with entries now open for what is always the town’s biggest running event.

The Gazette and Radio Wave have once again teamed up with Beaverbooks to support Trinity Hospice in staging the event, which is in its 35th year, open to runners of all abilities and takes place on Sunday May 8.

And there’s one big change to the line-up this year – a brand new Fun Run HQ!

The Savoy Hotel has joined the team and will be the main meeting point on Fun Run day, taking over from the Hilton, traditionally the start point in previous years.

The traffic-free route down the Promenade to the Pleasure Beach and back has a reputation for being a fast course, and club runners travel from across the country to take part.

Last year’s run saw athletes from Glasgow and Birmingham line up alongside local runners.

The event has chip technology timing and last year’s winner went through the finish tape in just 32mins 34s.

All entry fees from the Fun Run go to Trinity Hospice, and traditionally many runners choose to raise money for the hospice through sponsorship.

Participants can run for any charity that’s close to their hearts – or just take part for the fun of it!

The event attracts more than 2,000 runners each year. All runners will receive a commemorative medal and a running T-shirt. Entry costs £12.50 for adults and £8.50 for youngsters (minimum age 11) and a team of 10 adults can enter for just £100.

Linzi Young, head of fund-raising for Trinity Hospice said: “The Fun Run is one of our biggest fund-raising events of the year and always brings a huge crowd. The course is fast and flat and we have already had enquiries from club runners from across the north west region, but runners of all abilities are welcome – the fun
runners and fancy dress participants really add to the atmosphere and spectacle of the day.

“Beaverbrooks are once again our sponsor – they started this event and have done so much for the hospice over the years – and it’s good to have the Savoy Hotel on board with us this time.

“The new Fun Run HQ is in a great position just off Gynn Square, and the enthusiasm of the Savoy team has been fantastic. We are all
looking forward to a memorable day.”
