Two Gazette journalists will battle it out to be named the best in the North West after being nominated at the O2 Awards.

Blackpool FC reporter Will Watt is shortlisted in the Sports Reporter of the Year category.

Entertainment writer Steve Canavan has been nominated in the Feature Writer of the Year category.

Winners will be revealed at the awards presentation evening on November 6 at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral.

Will was shortlisted for his coverage of one of Blackpool football club’s most tumultuous seasons following the departure of managers Ian Holloway and then Michael Appleton and fans’ questioning of Karl Oyston’s running of the club.

Steve’s nomination followed his experiences living on the streets of Blackpool for two nights highlighting the plight of the town’s homeless people.

Nicola Green, Head of Communications at O2, said: “This year’s standard was exceptional both in quality and diversity.

Those nominated this year really should feel truly proud of making such a phenomenal shortlist.”

Former Blackpool Sixth Form College student and Radio Wave newsreader Sarah Rogers, now at ITV Granada, is shortlisted for TV Broadcast Journalist of the Year.
