A Fylde coast nurse is heading Stateside to raise money for patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Gareth Burns , who works on a respiratory ward at the hospital, will be taking part in the New York Marathon on November 4 and hopes to raise £2,500.
He said: “There are a number of staff from the ward who are hoping to come with me to support me.
“We have organised a few raffles, a promotional event at the hospital and are in the middle of organising an American-themed party to try to increase donations.”
The 28-year-old says he is determined to do it to help the people he treats on a daily basis.
He said: “With help from the hospital charity, Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, I hope to raise money to help improve the patients’ experience on our ward, and also raise awareness of some of the many respiratory conditions that people have to deal with.”
Gareth wanted to thank his colleagues for their support, saying: “All the staff on the ward have been fantastic in supporting me and donating money.”
