Fylde Council in plea for safe driving

Fylde Council are appealing to drivers to be patient and drive safely around refuse and recycling collection vehicles.

The plea comes after two employees have been hit by cars within the last six months. On both occasions drivers mounted the pavement to pass a vehicle whilst collections were taking place.

Sarah Wilson, Waste Operations Manager said “We are committed to providing the best possible service to our customers. In return we believe they have a right to be treated courteously and with respect.

“The Council will not tolerate instances of verbal or physical assault, including injuries from cars, of its staff. If you do encounter a vehicle during collections, please be mindful of staff working around the vehicle and only pass if it is safe, legal and sensible to do so.

“Crews collect bins as efficiently as possible and in the majority of cases you will only have to wait a few moments before continuing on your journey.”
