Fylde to be mild as snow arrives

Severe weather, cold and snow was set to batter parts of the North West today... but forecasters say the Fylde will escape the worst of it.

A severe weather warning was issued by the Met Office yesterday for the North West of England – but the Fylde is set to remain mild as Blackpool avoids the first blast of winter.

Temperatures are set to remain fair over the next couple of days, although there is a slim chance snow could fall today.

Dan Williams, from the Met Office, said: “Don’t be surprised if you do see some wintry showers, snow, sleet or hail.

“I don’t think we’ll see anything settle. I wouldn’t expect to see any disruption to transport or anything.”

He added that temperatures in Blackpool are set to stay above five degrees celsius today, with a high of about eight degrees.

However, on Friday night it may dip as low as two degrees, the Met Office said.

For those travelling further inland, the Met Office has issue the following warning: “The public should be aware of the possibility of difficult driving conditions and some minor travel disruption on higher Pennine routes.”
