A LINGERIE shop, specialising in mastectomy wear, is to hold a fundraising night in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Papillon was set up by Sue Jackson, from Warton, and friend Kaye Whenmouth, after both women had breast cancer.
The shop, on Cannon Street, Preston, offers a range of specialist mastectomy underwear, swimwear and nightwear.
The idea came from Sue’s own experiences, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
After being treated, one of the biggest issues she faced was finding a bra.
The nearest shop she could find offering the same service to women in the whole of the North West was in Warrington – an hour’s drive away.
Papillon, as well as being centrally-located for ladies across the North West to visit, with good road and public transport links, offers a home service.
Now Sue and business partner Kaye have decided they want to do more for women with breast cancer and are planning a series of fundraising events – kicking off with a ladies night and fashion show at Barton Grange Hotel next month.
The 44-year-old said: “When the shop opened, we said we always wanted to organise something and raise money for breast cancer charities too.
“We are going to be having a marquee at the Race for Life at several venues across the North West and, in the future, we want to hold another fundraiser in Blackpool, to raise money for the Victoria Hospital’s breast cancer unit.
“We want to help other charities who work for people with breast cancer, after our own experiences with the illness, and because we deal with so many people who have been affected too.
“The first event will be a ladies night and fashion show. The nurses from the breast cancer unit will be there, we will have a male vocalist, a big raffle, lots of different companies will have stalls. It will be a good, fun night for ladies, raising money for a good cause at the same time.
“Our lingerie will be on display in the fashion show, and evening wear by Halo and Ellis, of Preston.
“Tickets cost £5 per person. We’d like as many women as possible to come along and show their support and enjoy a nice evening.”
The women’s night will take place on June 9, starting at 6.30pm, at Barton Grange Hotel, on the A6, near Garstang.
