Friends group in cash boost

A group which provides companionship for lonely older people has received a £500 cash boost.

St Annes-based project Just Good Friends has been awarded the money by Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner’s community action fund.

At the moment the group meets on Saturdays at the town’s YMCA, but from January they will also meet on Fridays at a new premises on Garden Street.

The grant will go toward the cost of hiring the venue and associated running costs.

Founder Bev Sykes said: “The group is all about bringing the community together to help each other. It’s absolutely brilliant and it’s doing so well I want it to grow and grow.”

Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said: “I hope the grant has a positive impact and allows the organisation to build on the good work it is already doing.”
