The scheme at YMCA Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre on The Esplanade has been made possible thanks to a £2,500 grant from Coun Lorraine Beavers, a Lancashire County Council member for Fleetwood.

It will come into effect from Easter in April and cover 13 weeks over Whit week, the summer holidays, Christmas and February half term 2018.

Coun Beavers said the sessions will be paid for by money allocated from County’s health and wellbeing fund.

She said: “It is essential that as many children as possible learn how to swim.

“The funds have been signed on now and this will come into effect from Easter this year.”

Proof of residency at an FY7 postcode, such as utility bills, will be required to enable families to take advantage of the scheme..

Any children under the age of eight will have to be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian aged 18 or over. More details will be released nearer the time.
