Joy for residents as council is asked to block plans... but gas firm pledges to ‘resolve’ issues

Fylde residents today called on county councillors to follow the advice of planning officers and throw out a bid to frack for gas near their homes.

Delighted neighbours who live in the hamlets of Roseacre and Little Plumpton reacted with joy to a County Hall report which recommends refusing permission for two bids to drill and test for shale gas on neighbouring farm fields.

Planning officers cited noise issues at both sites and potential traffic problems at Roseacre.

Residents today admitted the fight to defeat a bid to drill in rural Fylde was far from over, while business chiefs today claimed the county could be turning its back on a potential jobs goldmine by not allowing fracking to go ahead.

And gas firm Cuadrilla said while it was “disappointed” its applications had been listed for refusal it “will resolve” the issues.
