Former pupils meet to mark big milestone
Members of the Baines School Former Pupils Association met for tea and cake and to share memories at Baines School in Poulton.
Some 94 people attended as they celebrated the school’s 300th birthday this year.

Hide AdRetired hardwear shop owner Michael Ardron, 81, who attended the school in 1943, said: “I went to Baines during the war so there were quite a lot of lady teachers. Then when the war ended all the men came back and we had a lot of male teachers.
“It’s still a very good school and I enjoyed every minute of it, and when you have these reunions it gives you the chance to meet up with all your former friends.
“There was one gentleman there who was 95-years-old.
“The youngest member of the group is in his 50s.
“We have 94 members and that includes four or five members of the Sixth Form.”
The Baines Former Pupils Association was founded in 1906 with the stated aim of maintaining the connection between the school and its former pupils by organising regular meet-ups and staying involved in the development of the school.

Hide AdThe group is aimed specifically at former Poulton pupils and has members all over the world, with one member, Mike Aldersey, travelling from America to reunite with his former school chums. Michael, who lives in Poulton, said: “I’m Baines through and through. My grandad taught there as a teacher, and my mother taught there.
“My dad went to Baines and I went with my brother, and then my two children went as well.
“We’re a Baines family.”
