Flood gates will close as high tides hit Fylde coast

Wyre Council is taking precautions to deal with high tides expected along the coastline throughout the week.

At present, no adverse weather conditions or flooding are expected, but council officers are monitoring the situation closely and on standby should conditions worsen.

Storm gates along the seafront have been closed at Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Knott End to protect from the risk of tidal flooding.

Access to the promenade remains open at present at: Victoria Road West and Café Cove at Cleveleys, Green Drive at Rossall, Marine Hall at Fleetwood and the Knott End ferry slipway.

The council will continue to monitor weather and tidal conditions in order to strike a balance between managing a genuine flood risk and unnecessarily restricting access to Wyre’s seafront.

Members of the public are advised to stay off the promenade and beach for their own safety during high tides, which are expected at lunchtimes and midnight until Thursday 1 October.
