FLEETWOOD Town striker Richie Allen was arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault following an incident at a Blackpool nightclub.
The 28-year-old was questioned on Saturday night along with two other Preston men following the complaint at Infusion on General Street and was later bailed to return to Blackpool police station on September 5.
And his arrest meant he was unable to make Town’s pre-season training camp in Austria when the team flew out to the camp on Monday.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “An allegation of sexual assault has been made, following an incident at Infusion Club in Blackpool on July 7
“Three men, aged 31, 28 and 26, all from Preston, have been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and have been bailed to report back to Blackpool police station on September 5.”
The allegation comes seven months after the player and his partner lost their six-week-old baby boy in a tragedy at their home.
Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team launched an investigation, but there were no suspicious circumstances,
Fleetwood Town, whose first team squad will be back home at the end of this week, declined to comment about the arrest.

He returned to Fleetwood in January was immediately loaned back to AFC Fylde for the remainder of the season to get match practice and help with their promotion push.
His first spell at Fleetwood ended in December 2007 and he subsequently played for Northwich Victoria before moving to AFC Fylde.
He has previously played for Bamber Bridge Football Club and the amateur side Acregate Lane Labour Club in Preston.
