FLEETWOOD Town Football Club and their psychologist Steve Pope have both agreed to sponsor rising darts talent Tom Duggan.
A regular supporter at Highbury, Tom’s ability at the oche came to the club’s attention through their involvement with local schools.
Tom, 16, a student at Fleetwood High, is already competing in men’s events, as well as youth tournaments and recently reached the second round of the Isle of Man Open in the men’s singles and pairs.
In November, he reached the second round of the men’s open in the tournament at the Marine Hall in the Lancashire Festival of Darts.
Tom was back at the Marine Hall in the Gold Cup, where he beat the Lancashire captain in the first round.
It really is a considerable achievement for the youngster, who only started playing the sport three years ago.
But he quickly realised he had a talent for the game.
Tom said: “My friend had a dartboard at home, and I started playing there.
“But I soon got one of my own, and practise every chance I get.
“I am really pleased that Fleetwood are sponsoring me, I hope I can do them proud.
“I love going to all the games and get a real buzz from the crowd and watching the team.”
Tom is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Fleetwood’s very own Wes Newton, who is now ranked in the world’s top-10 and who last week won the Professional Darts Corporation Players’ Championship.
