The fully-automated facility would have six filling points, storage tanks, an overhead canopy, air and water unit, and associated pipework.

CCTV cameras would also be installed.

A total of 30 parking spaces would be lost close to the shop’s Click and Collect service kiosk, drawings showed.

And transport planners SIAS said in documents: “The petrol station will operate a pay-at-pump payment system. Its introduction is proposed to make the offer to existing Asda customers more comprehensive.”

A ‘maximum of 11 additional trips’ to fill up would be generated at peak times, it added.

The site, in Back Cop Lane, is in an area at high risk of flooding, although there is no historical evidence of flooding there, consultancy firm RPS said in documents.

And professional services giant Deloitte added: “The proposed development will not significantly increase the number of dedicated trips to and from the petrol station.

“It will largely serve existing customers and will have a minimal impact on the existing road networks.”
