FLEETWOOD’S community came together to light up their town for the first time in more than 60 years.
Santa led The Old Boys in the lantern parade from Ash Street, with around 1,000 residents joining the procession along to Euston Gardens for the switch on event.
Nearly 100 small Christmas trees, plus five larger ones will now light up Fleetwood town centre over the festive season, realising the dream of Karen Leo, who passed away earlier this year, for special Christmas cheer to come to Fleetwood.
Her husband, David Leo, said: “It was very moving, a fitting tribute to Karen. It was nice seeing all the community come together.”
Organisers said they were delighted and overwhelmed by the turnout, with thousands of people joining in with celebrations.
Glenice Bywater, one of the main organisers, said: “The lighting up was spectacular, it’s just been fantastic.
“We must thank Fleetwood, all the schools and The Euston. The turnout was stunning, above and beyond our expectations.”
