Fire crews complete search of property ravaged by fire in Wesham

Four engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform were called out to a "persons reported" fire at the property, which is divided into two flats, on Garstang Road at around 3am on Tuesday, May 15.

Firefighters were initially unable to enter the property to conduct thorough searches after it was left structurally unsound by the blaze.

But after work to stabilise the property, search and rescue teams were able to begin looking for the missing person.

Fire services were able to confirm that nobody was inside the building during the fire at around 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The missing person was found by police in Preston. Neighbour Matthew Jackson described how engines arrived at the scene of the emergency in minutes after they were alerted by a neightbour.

He said: "I was woken up by the fire brigade banging on my door to evacuate. "My neighbour called them out as she was woken by the fire. We waited not even five minutes for the first engine to turn up."

No arrests have been made and investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
