A dog owner has been fined £50 for leaving dog dirt in public playing fields.

An angry member of the public contacted Fylde Council about mess that was being left at the open space on Waddington Road in St Annes.

A council dog warden visited the fields, and saw a man walking away after letting his dog foul.

He was given a fixed penalty notice.

Fylde’s principle waste development officer, Sarah Wilson, said: “We now have nine members of staff who are authorised to hand out tickets to offenders.

“This particular incident shows how members of the public can help themselves – someone let us know of repeated dog-dirt incidents and we sent out patrols to keep an eye on the area.

“Dog-dirt is a scourge and we can only appeal to other members of the public to let us know. We need to know times, locations and descriptions – and we will take it from there.”

To report dog-fouling incidents call Fylde Council on (01253) 658658 or report it online at the residential section of
