Final farewell to well-respected funeral director

John Byrne Sr, who died from heart failure on February 14 at the age of 62, was involved in the funeral profession for over 30 years.

He had suffered from heart trouble for two years,

After working for Wilson & Forest and then TH Fention at Cleveleys, Mr Byrne set up the business JT Byrne on Victoria Road East, Thornton, with wife Christine in 1989.

In 1994 they opened an additional branch in Fleetwood, first on Poulton Road and then re-locating to the current premises by West View roundabout .

And the couple were later joined by their children in the business, John Jr and Angela Byrne.

Mr Byrne Sr, who lived on Heritage Way, Cleveleys, leaves his two children, wife Christine and five grandchildren. He retired seven years ago.

Son John, a director of the business, said: “My father was very well respected in the community and served the community well for three decades. We have been inundated with cards and messages of condolence.”

The family firm will undertake the funeral.

The funeral will take place at St Teresa’s Church, Cleveleys, on Tuesday March 1 at noon, followed by a ceremony at Carleton Crematorium at 1.30pm.
