Field day is home and dry

Organisers had made plans for the event to be held indoors, but fortunately they did not have to be implemented.

Hayley Stafford, chairman of the field day committee, said: “It was a great day considering we were nervous about the weather and the forecast was showing we were going to have rain.

“We managed to get through without any.”

New rose queen Charlotte Vos, who replaced outgoing queen Eponie Jones, was crowned by Laura McCormack.

Charlotte, 11, is a year six pupil at Ribby with Wrea CE Primary School.

Her hobbies are baking, roller skating and swimming.

Other attractions included a fun fair, the Red Rose Brass Band, the Fylde Coast Cloggers, a Twinning Tea tent, farmers market, the Accrington Pipe Band and the Blackpool Circus School.

The procession started at noon, with the crowning of rose queen at 12.30pm followed by the fun and games on the green.

Hayley said: “The fair seemed to be bigger this year and I think the kids enjoyed it because it was such a varied amount of rides.

“In general, it went really well and we had some really good entries on the parade.

“Wareings were very much involved, with all the old fashioned trucks they used to use in the old days.

“It was good to see them all round the green.

“People made an effort to dress up in fancy dress.

“The school had a theme of the great outdoors and children dressed up as people who worked in the outdoor world.

“We had a farmers’ market, with up to 18 stalls which was superb this year.”

She added: “It was really successful.

“We’d like 20 degrees, clear blue skies and no wind, but despite a little wind it kept the rain away.”
