A cancer survivor is set to hold a charity rally which will see dozens of Fiats parade along the route of the Illuminations.

Russell Lambert, 51, a salesman at Chorley Group Motors on Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, is holding the rally as a thank you to those who helped him through his illness.

Mr Lambert hopes between 100 and 150 Fiat 500s, a car he sells regularly in his job, will join together next month to help raise money for Trinity Hospice.

The father-of-one said: “It’s just a way of saying thank you very much for all the help I got when I was ill.

“It was just an idea at first but now it’s snowballing into something bigger.

“It’s going to be good.”

The rally will see the cars meet at the company’s premises before parading along the Lights.

Mr Lambert was diagnosed with prostate cancer after having a routine check-up with his doctor, and underwent 13 weeks of radiotherapy before being given the all-clear last month.

He said: “I went for a routine check-up and he asked me if I’d ever had my prostate checked out.

“He did the test and told me I was in the early stages.

“It was a hard time but I got through it and everybody was fantastic with me and it felt brilliant when I got the all-clear – it was a big weight off me.

“I didn’t realise I had so many nice people helping me out and this is my way of saying thank you to them.”
