BLACKPOOL FC said it was “shocked and saddened” after a supporter died during last night’s game.
The man, believed to be in his 70s, collapsed midway through the first-half of the Seasiders play off semi-final first-leg clash with Birmingham City.
Despite treatment both in the West Stand and in the tunnel at half time, it’s understood the man – a season ticket holder – passed away.
Tributes have since flooded in from fellow supporters and the club.
A club spokesman said: “He was a long-term supporter of Blackpool FC and we are shocked and saddened to hear the news.
“It takes the gloss of our victory last night and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Glenn Bowley, chairman of the Blackpool Supporters’ Association, said: “So sad about the fan who has passed away last night.
“It puts everything into perspective and thoughts are with his loved ones.”
On social networking site Twitter dozens of other fans also paid respects to their fellow Seasider.
Blackpool fan Clayton Short said: “RIP to the Blackpool supporter who never made it home.”
