A Norwegian Blackpool fan has become an internet sensation after placing a bizarre bet on Liverpool’s Luiz Suarez biting an opponent.

Seasiders supporter Thomas Syversen, 23, won £540 for putting £3 on what most people would have thought unthinkable before the start of the World Cup.

But after the Uruguay striker sunk his teeth into Italian Giorgio Chiellini – the third time he has bitten a player – Mr Syversen was one of 167 punters celebrating a sizeable win.

He said: “I put the bet just for fun really, but I was asleep when it happened.

“A friend called me and said it, and I just started to laugh because it’s unreal that he did it again.

“I think Suarez is a brilliant football player, but he does a lot of crazy things.”

Suarez was yesterday banned by football’s governing body FIFA for nine international matches and from all football-related activities for four matches.

The shocking incident came in the last 15 minutes of a fraught encounter between Uruguay and Italy, as both teams battled for qualification from the group stage of the competition in Brazil.

The bite was not seen by the officials during the Uruguayans’ 1-0 win.

Mr Syversen, of Trondheim, pledged his allegiance to The Seasiders when he decided to virtually control the team in the Premier Manager video

He kept up his tradition of coaching the team until 2007, and saw his first and only game at Bloomfield Road when Blackpool played
Nottingham Forest in 2010.

He added: “I don’t think there are any more bizarre bets left to play in the World Cup, but maybe I’ll put some on when the Premier League starts.

“The most I have won on sports betting is 25,000kr (£2,400), but I’ve won a lot more on poker.

“My favourite player is Thomas Ince at the moment, before him it was Charlie Adam, and before him it was Scott Vernon.

“I’m probably going to watch most of the Blackpool games this season via the internet, but maybe I’ll go to England to see them as well, who
