Family plea for missing Blackpool man to “come home soon”

The distraught family of a missing Blackpool man today pleaded with him to “come home soon.”

It is now seven weeks since Calum Terras left the home he shares with his grandparents in the resort’s Fleet Street.

Despite a police appeal for help in finding him, officers are no nearer to tracing the 28-year-old and there has not been a single sighting of him since.

Today Calum’s relatives launched a renewed appeal for information into his disappearance, pleading with anyone who may know where he is to contact police.

Grandmother, Pauline Smith, who has helped raise Calum since the age of 11, said the family home has felt “empty” since the former Highfield Humanities College student disappeared on January 5.

She added: “It’s as if he’s vanished.

“I just wish he could be brought back into this house.

She added: “Since he has been missing, there has been a void – this house is empty without him.

“If anybody knows where Calum is, or he could read this story, just come home soon.

“If you don’t want to, just write to us and let us know where you are, or even phone us to let us know you are

safe.”

Calum’s cousin Kirsty Fallah, 27, said: “It is just the feeling of loss – you are going about your life but you are scared because you do not know what has happened to him.

“Each day you wake up you do not know what news it might bring.”

His auntie, Lesley Fallah, 51, added: “We just want to know he is safe. We just want him home.”

The former Blackpool Sixth Form College student was last seen at his home address on Fleet Street on Monday, January 5, by his grandmother at around 6.55am.

He left the house after saying he was going to get a hair cut at Abingdon Street Market and visit his doctors.

Pauline said: “It turned out he did not have a GP appointment.

“I phoned the doctors and asked. They could not say too much because of patient confidentiality but just said he did not have an appointment at any time that day with any of the doctors.

“He would never have lied.”

Calum was 27 when he went missing, but has since had a birthday and turned 28 earlier this month.

After studying computer engineering at Stafford University he started working at the Department for Work and Pensions in Blackpool.

He also worked as a ward clerk at Blackpool Victoria Hospital but began to struggle with depression last year, his family said.

He admitted he had felt down in the days before he went missing but, having spoken to his grandmother, he seemed better.

Independence

Pauline added: “I was awake and heard Calum come down the stairs.

“He said he was going out to some holiday flats we own in Charnley Road before visiting the doctors.

“I could not get up quick enough to speak to him. Because of what he said, we became concerned.”

Lesley added: “Around 11am we broke the door down to get into the flat, but there was no sign of him.’”

The family reported his disappearance to the police around 2pm and praised officers for their “brilliant” help in trying to track him.

But despite the best efforts of police, the search investigation has brought no leads, with no recordings of Calum on CCTV.

Kirsty added: “We were concerned about his frame of mind when he went, but the longer it goes on without finding him you think ‘what if.’”

Pauline said: “I am refusing to think he has harmed himself. God forbid he has done anything.”

Calum is described as white, 5ft 6in tall of a medium build with collar length dark brown hair. He has facial hair and wears glasses.

He was last seen wearing a three-quarter length military jacket and white trainers.

His family said he could be in Manchester with friends, but it is possible he is elsewhere with officers conducting investigations as far as London and Fife, where Calum’s father lives.
