AN ex-police officer was found drunk and asleep at the wheel of his car, Blackpool magistrates were told.

William Morrow had spent a distinguished career dealing with murders and fighting organised gang crime.

But when police found him in his car on The Strand at Fleetwood at 3am the vehicle was parked in the middle of the road, the driver’s door was open and Morrow was asleep.

Officers woke him and breath tested the 49-year-old.

He he was two and half times over the drink drive limit.

But when he was arrested he refused to undertake any more tests required under drink drive legislation, the court heard.

Morrow, of Poynton, Cheshire, was fined £500 and banned from driving for two years for failing to give the tests.

The court heard he had been retired from police work and was now a private detective.

He had been in Blackpool to see his brother and had drunk a lot on the night. He was trying to cope with a drink problem.
