A dedicated officer has been employed to lead Fleetwood’s £2.4m Memorial Park restoration project.

Dewi Hollowell will lead the scheme for Wyre Council, and will be based at the park, between Park Avenue and Welbeck Avenue, once the pavilion is complete to talk to residents about the project.

The authority has secured £2.4m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund for a comprehensive restoration of the Grade II listed park.

The beauty spot, built to commemorate the First World War, is undergoing a major restoration, including introducing trees and wildlife, and through telling the stories of those who are commemorated on the war memorial.

Mr Hollowell, 22, from Stalmine, will oversee day-to-day management at the park and co-ordination of events, starting with the Big Garden Birdwatch, a free event on January 24.
