Flood recovery fund to help storm-hit people in Lancashire

The Lancashire Flood Recovery Appeal is offering a helping hand to people in the wake of the damage and devastation caused by 80mph winds and rising water levels that saw some people evacuated from their homes.

The appeal, set up by the Community Foundation for Lancashire, will provide emergency repairs, clothing, childcare equipment, furniture and white goods to storm-hit people in Blackpool, Burnley, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

But while the appeal has been kick-started using some existing funds, the Community Foundation is now in desperate need of donations to continue supporting the county’s most vulnerable.

These include people over the age of 70, children under five, people with physical or learning difficulties or mental health needs, and residents on low incomes or benefits.

Chief executive Rae Brooke said: “By working together with businesses, individual donors and the wider public seeking to help, we can together effectively reach the most vulnerable victims of flooding.

“We welcome, and actively encourage, donations that will support those in desperate need, ensuring the Lancashire Flood Recovery Appeal Fund has a far-reaching impact across the county.”
