Blackpool staged an Easter switch-on ceremony to launch the resort’s newest Illuminations feature

Churches in the town have joined forces to raise money towards the £25,000 new light show opposite Uncle Tom’s Cabin on Queen’s Promenade.
The switch-on was carried out jointly by the Bishop of Lancaster Rt Rev. Geoff Pearson and Blackpool Mayor Coun Kath Rowson in front of a crowd of well-wishers.
Donations are still being collected with any surplus to be retained for future maintenance work.
Bishop Geoff said: “This is a fantastic initiative by churches on the Fylde Coast and I warmly encourage other churches across Lancashire to take part by donating towards paying for this display.
“We would welcome donations from anyone who believes, as we do, that the three million people who view the Illuminations each year deserve to know more about the saving grace of Jesus Christ and, as the display says, he is ‘the resurrection and the life’.”
The display will shine every Easter and during the Illuminations.
