Energy team burns the calories to raise money for Fylde cancer charity

The team from St Annes based British Independent Utilities is supporting the Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group.

And not only have workers completed a gruelling bike ride, two went on to conquer the highest mountain in Africa.

Will Goulding and James Hall have just returned after completing the final leg of their physical challenge – climbing Kilimanjaro.

Their challenge began with the team cycling 142 miles from Whitehaven in Cumbria to the North East on the Coast to Coast ride before flying out to trek 19, 341 feet to the summit of Kilimanjaro – the dormant volcano in Tanzania.

The 12 day challenge saw the team trek through rainforests and clouds before the final day of climbing 1,000m to reach the ice-capped peak.

The Swallows helps those affected by head and neck cancer, by offering either one-to-one or group support. BIU is still collecting donations from businesses and individuals.

The funds will go towards the scanner appeal for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for their Head and Neck Cancer Support Unit.

Will Goulding said: “This was some challenge. We pushed our limits to see what we could achieve.

“The Swallows has helped both friends and family members of mine through difficult times.”
