ELTON John - the world’s most flamboyant showman - will play a massive live concert on Blackpool’s Golden Mile this summer.

The “Rocket Man” today confirmed he will be the first act to grace the resort’s new Tower Festival Headland, on Saturday, June 16.

Sir Elton told The Gazette: “I’ve played more than 3,000 concerts – but I haven’t performed in Blackpool for 30 years.

“I’m looking forward to revisiting this legendary seaside town and playing on the Golden Mile, right near Blackpool Tower. See you in June!”

The last time Sir Elton took to the stage was in November 1982 when he played two nights at the Opera House.

Tickets for his 2012 return - which is set to be a 10,000 sell out - will go on sale on Friday at 9am (click here for more ticket details).

The gig, which will feature Sir Elton’s full band, is a major coup for Blackpool Council’s marketing firm Marketing Blackpool which is working with London-based promoter Marshall Arts.
