SATURDAY night is still alright for Elton – despite the Rocketman pulling out of his American residency.

Sir Elton John this week cancelled three of his Las Vegas dates after doctors urged him to rest – but fans are being assured he will make his date with Blackpool.

The singer was admitted to hospital in Los Angeles on Wednesday and, although he was released the same day, he was forced to cancel the dates at Caesars Palace.

But he is still expected to star at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert on Monday, June 4, and will become the very first person to play Blackpool’s Tower Headland when he takes to the stage on Saturday, June 16.

Natalie Wyatt (above), managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said plans for the massive concert were going well as they prepare to launch the headland after years of regeneration.

She added: “We obviously wish Sir Elton well in his recovery.

“We are still very much looking forward to welcoming him into Blackpool on June 16.

“All arrangements for this spectacular event are running as planned and as far as we are concerned Sir Elton’s gig and launch of the Blackpool Tower Festival Headland is going ahead as usual.”

Sir Elton – who was forced to cancel two concerts in February after coming down with food poisoning – told TMZ website it felt “strange” to miss his shows as he apologised to anyone who may have bought tickets.

He said: “All I can say to the fans is ‘sorry I can’t be with you’.”

Sir Elton will complete his Million Dollar Piano residency in Las Vegas with 11 shows in August, after his European tour this summer.
