Dave, who has run pubs and bars in the resort for almost 40 years, is stepping down as landlord of the Castle pub.

The pub industry icon bowed out with a retirement party at the Manchester Pub last night and friends, family and senior management from Stonegate Pub Company joined him for the bash.

Dave has run the Castle pub in Blackpool, owned by Stonegate, the largest independent managed pub company in the country, for the past 12 years.

He said: “My job has involved being happy and serving happy and interesting customers.

“It is the customers, thousands of them, which have made my career. It has been an honour.

“There’s nothing more exciting than working with people having fun.”
