Look who's talking NAO: Blackpool school brings in robot that can walk, talk, and even recognise your face

But if there was ever any evidence needed to show we are truly living in the future, this is it.

Meet NAO, the 58cm tall, autonomous, fully programmable robot that can walk, talk, listen to you, and even recognise your face.

Its 25 motors give it a human range of emotion, ideal for expressing body language and interacting with human objects – and it can even help four and five year olds with their reading.

And teachers say it will even prepare youngsters for one day working with robots.

Computer Science teacher Rebecca Franks said: “NAO enables pupils to learn about algorithms to start programming at a basic level. When students begin to program, they can see immediately the effect it has on NAO by his physical and verbal responses.

“When programming NAO, young people develop their curiosity much further, which extends their critical thinking and high level problem solving. This will equip our pupils for a job market which will be more technologically advanced and a society that is ever expanding.”

Asst headteacher Janette Webster added: “NAO is an integral part of our Armfield computer science strategy. Our vision is to teach the pupils how programming impacts on their everyday lives and will continue to do so.”
