Teenagers raised hundreds of pounds for the specialist hospital unit caring for a former classmate.
Blackpool Sixth Form held a dedicated ‘Joe’s Day’, asking students to wear red or hearts for the day last Friday, in honour of former pupil Joe Higgins.
The 18-year-old is recovering at Wythenshawe Hospital after undergoing a heart transplant last month.
He was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition.
He remains in hospital but his sister Chessie, 23, said: “He can barely move or talk at the moment but the surgeons are happy with his slow progress.”
The sixth form on Blackpool Old Road, where Joe was a student until this summer, raised £232.93 for the cardiac unit at the hospital, as well as using the day to give students information about signing up to be organ donors.
