A Blackpool expert in child development is heading to the US this month as part of a fact-finding tour which will help deprived families in Blackpool.
Clare Law, development manager for Blackpool Better Start, will visit institutions in New York, Philadelphia, Buffalo and Michigan and meet academics and leading experts in the field of trauma informed care.
Her trip is being funded through the Winston Churchill Fellowship she was awarded earlier this year for work in Blackpool with children aged up to four years old.
Clare will learn about services in America to help pregnant women who have experienced trauma in their life and bring back fresh ideas and new solutions to benefit parents and children in the resort.
She said: “Being awarded the Winston Churchill Fellowship will allow me to travel to inspirational and innovative projects across the world.
“The first of these trips is to the states, and I am also planning on visiting Australia early next year.
“I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity and I hope I will be able to emulate and develop ground breaking programmes and more targeted activities that will benefit Blackpool and the community.”
