The religious education department at a Blackpool school has clinched a prestigious national award.
St Mary’s Catholic College has been awarded the Silver RE Quality Mark (REQM), which recognises high-quality RE in UK schools.
An assessor from the REQM spent a day at the St Walburgas Road school, talking to students and staff and reviewing work.
Head of RE Phil Allan said: “The award recognises the good learning in RE, both in terms of exam results and the enthusiasm students have for the subject.”
The school was praised for how RE gave opportunities for pupils to “explore the big ideas and questions of religion and belief”.
Headteacher Stephen Tierney said: “The college places a great emphasis on spiritual, moral, social and cultural development alongside academic excellence.
“I’m delighted this has been recognised.”
