An author shared her road to writing success with students at her former college.
Simona Pellegrini, who studied at Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC), returned to the campus in the hope of inspiring students to succeed in their chosen career, no matter their background, and offer advice on life in the writing industry.
Italian-born Ms Pellegrini studied an HND in Business at B&FC in 2003 and has recently had her debut book, Feathers and Flames, a young adult fantasy novel, published on Amazon.
She said: “The things I learned at college have helped me so much with getting my book to market.
“Having a grasp of business has definitely worked in my favour as there is so much you need to think about outside of the writing itself.
“I wish I had stayed on to do a degree on creative writing at the college though – it would have helped me a lot.
“I’d advise the students to tailor their studies to do something they love and work really hard at it.”
Student Louis Lee, 19, from South Shore, studying access to higher education, said: “It’s really inspirational to think that someone from Blackpool can become successful as it goes against some of the stereotypes.
“It’s even better that she also studied here at the college.”
Student Melissa Fenlon, from Blackpool, added: “It’s inspiring to know that you can get there if you work hard doing what you love.”
