He may not be dressed to the nines in aristocratic attire... but one youngster is set to be a star of the small screen during the upcoming series of Downton Abbey.

Owen Brady, 13, has been filming advertisement idents for Tesco, which sponsors the popular ITV series, and will soon be a familiar face to those tuned in to the dramas of the Crawley family.

The idents will be aired during each advert break in the series, and Owen, from Springfield Drive, Thornton, has spilled the beans to The Gazette on what his role involves. He said: “It was mainly eating to advertise their different products like chicken legs and scallops.

“It was the first time I’d tried scallops too so it’s a genuine reaction on screen.

“It was good fun and I enjoyed doing the adverts.”

And Owen, a pupil at Cardinal Allen Catholic High School, in Fleetwood, says both friends and family are keen to see his acting talents when the series begins next Sunday.

He also praised his school for letting him take time to complete the filming, adding: “They’ve been really supportive of all of the work that I’ve been doing.

“Some of my friends are quite interested in it, they all keep asking me lots of question about why I was filming and what it was for. My family are really excited to see it.”

The idents aren’t the first time Owen has tasted fame, after working on an advert for Walker’s crisps with Gary Lineker last year.

However, he says his future career aspirations lie in more serious roles.

He said: “I want to do more acting work.

“I’d prefer to do a comedy role on a programme.”

Owen was spotted by a talent agent after training at Scream Theatre School, in Blackpool.
