Officers could smell drink on him and a breath test showed 54 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

Brett Chappell, defending, said his client was of previous unblemished character.

He had had drinks with a friend but felt fit and able to drive.

Mullington was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £120 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
