An angry motorist tracked down the vandal who kicked the wing mirror off his car.

Hassan Lakhlifi was caught after two neighbours of the victim filmed his attack on the vehicle and gave the owner the footage.

The victim later cornered the defendant in a nearby shop and the police were called.

But the vandal threatened to stab the victim before the police arrived on the scene.

Lakhlifi, 20, of Collyhurst Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was fined £75 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £40 compensation with a £150 court charge plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Lakhlifi was seen kicking the wing mirror off a Fiat Punto on the resort’s Horncliffe Road on July 14 at 9.10pm.

Two neighbours had filmed the attack and gave the footage to the car owner.

The victim then saw Lakhlifi in the area.

The defendant went into a nearby Tesco shop and when the owner confronted him Lakhlifi threatened to stab him.

When interviewed Lakhlifi said he could not remember a thing as he had been drinking vodka and smoking cannabis.

Brett Chappell, defending, said in addition to alcohol and cannabis misuse his client had mental health and anger management problems.

Mr Chappell added: “When he is intoxicated, the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome comes into action.”
