Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said a couple and their young grandson were in a Renault Scenic driving along Lytham Road at 4.45pm to pick up a prescription.

The grandfather said he saw Mounter’s Vauxhall Corsa drift onto his side of the road and hit his wing mirror. Mounter stopped further up the road and reversed, but he then collided with the rear of the Scenic.

Police arrived and later conducted a test on Mounter which showed cocaine, morphine, codeine and diazepam in his body.

He was banned from the road for 20 months and fined £120 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
