Driver fled after smashing car into wall

The incident happened at around 2am today in Bloomfield Road, close to the junction with Park Road.

The Ford Ka was involved in a collision with a wall and gate.

The driver is understood to have run away from the scene of the crash but returned for his mobile phone.

Ambulance crews and firefighters were called to the accident scene but found nobody trapped in the vehicle, which has been left in the middle of the street.

Lancashire Police said a 31-year-old from Blackpool had been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving and is still in custody.

He was found by police in Baron Road, South Shore.
