A man has been arrested after a pensioner was left with a head injury in a suspected road rage incident outside a primary school.

Onlookers called police after the 76-year-old man was hurt as parents arrived to pick up children from Lytham CE Primary School on Wednesday.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 3.20pm to reports of an assault in Park View Road.

“The injured man was turning into Ballam Road from Park View Road.

“At this point there’s been some sort of verbal altercation with the driver of another vehicle.

“The man in the other car has got out of his car and started arguing through the window.

“When the elderly man was about to get out of his car, the other man has slammed the door on his head.

“The 76-year-old man suffered a cut above his right eye, which required stitches.”

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and has been bailed until February 24.

Police say anyone with information about the alleged incident should contact them on 101.
