TWO men were rescued after they went into the sea to save a dog.

Residents and tourists in Bispham threw life rings to the men after they got into difficulty off Queens Promenade.

Both men were helped out of the water by onlookers at around 1pm yesterday.

The Coastguard and Blackpool and Fleetwood lifeboats were all put on standby to assist with the rescue operation.

However, they were stood down after the men and the dog were rescued.

Paul Parton, of Blackpool RNLI, said: “We were given a report saying two men were going in to the sea to rescue a dog at Bispham. Then we received another report saying the public had assisted them and we did not respond.”

Both men and the dog were unhurt in the incident.
