David Harris, 47, from South Shore, collapsed as he entered the Pound Bakery on Church Street where he works as chief baker.

When David collapsed, at around 10.40am on Saturday, two teenage boys came to his rescue with one of them performing mouth-to-mouth as the other gave chest compressions.

Despite David remaining on life support at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Liz, who lives in Cleveleys, said the boys kept him alive.

The 73-year-old said: “Good things always need to be publicised and these two boys have given David the chance of life.

“I believe they are both 16-years-old but no one got their names at the time.

“They were both given food and a drink for free at the bakery but I really want to personally thank them for the kind act they both did.”

David, who has worked at the Pound Bakery for five years, is believed to have fallen through door as he arrived for work.

After the two boys stepped in to help save David, another woman took over to help with chest compressions before paramedics arrived at the scene.

Liz said: “I have already thanked the lady who helped keep David alive, as she deserves credit for the part she played, so I think it’s right the two boys get the same treatment as well.”

She said David’s colleagues didn’t realise it was him at first when he had collapsed.

She added: “After he collapsed, the staff thought it was a customer but when the two boys turned him over to carry out CPR they realised it was David.

“All of David’s colleagues have been hugely supportive and sent some lovely messages about how they are thinking of me and hoping David can make a recovery.

“Apparently some customers have been coming in shocked at what has happened to him.”

Liz said she has been visiting David at the hospital each day but he remains in a critical condition.

She said: “He remains on life support and there has been no change. I just hope he can make a recovery and personally thanks those people who came to his rescue.”
