Distressed horse rescued from ditch in Hambleton

Crews, including a specialist rope team, were called to a farm on Sower Carr Lane at around 5.30pm on Monday after the elderly mare became trapped.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "With a vet in attendance, firefighters used ropes and slings to rescue the horse.

"The horse was sedated but when she came round she was standing up and safe and well."
