The annual St George’s Day dinner and dance took place in the Matthews Lounge, at Blackpool Football Club.

More than 300 guests – including the president Coun Lily Henderson attended the occasion, led by master of ceremonies George Phillips, to celebrate St George – not only the patron saint of England, but also of scouting.

The night started with a four-course meal and there was entertainment by duo Brothers in Swing, and a trio of singers called The Gilletts. One of the highlights was the district commissioner for Blackpool Scouts, Victoria Da Silva, presenting long-service awards of between 25 and 40 years to a group of scout leaders, and president, as well as other prestigious awards.

An auction took place – including prizes such as a framed limited edition picture of the Red Arrows, and rugby ball signed by rugby legend Bill Beaumont, plus a raffle with more than 60 prizes.

Funds raised go towards helping young people achieve their personal ambitions in scouting, and support ongoing projects like the District Camp Site at Mowbreck, near Wesham.
