A CHARITY walk has been cancelled for the second time – after it clashed with another event.
But the Fylde coast will still host a Memory Walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Staff from The Yachtsman Care Home in Fleetwood had stepped in to organise a walk after it was announced the Blackpool event would not go ahead this year.
They were hoping to hold a fundraiser in the port on Sunday September 23.
But the date clashes with the Fleetwood Triathlon.
However another walk has been organised independently at the Wyre Estuary Country Park on Sunday September 16.
Marie Deer, manager of The Yachtsman on Laidleys Walk, which specialises in dementia care, said: “We cannot go ahead with our walk because the road is closed for the Fleetwood Triathlon. We only found out about it this week.
“We are disappointed but we will get all our supporters to join the walk which has been organised at the Wyre Country Park because we believe this is a really important cause.”
Wyre Council worker Stephanie Collinson has organised the Wyre Memory Walk.
She said: “Everyone is welcome at this event including people with dementia along with their families and or carers. Let’s make it a day to remember.”
Countryside rangers will guide participants on a circular walk along the Wyre Estuary following country trails and roads, starting and ending at the country park on River Road, Thornton.
People can either join a walk of just under two miles which will take about an hour and is suitable for people with limited mobility, or a longer route of three miles which would take about two hours.
Both walks will set off together at 10am as the first section is the same for both routes.
The Blackpool walk, which last year saw around 240 people take part in Stanley Park, was cancelled because the Alzheimer’s Society wants to channel its resources into providing services instead.
